This course introduced students to the basic lawyering skills of interviewing, counseling, and negotiating. It employs simulation exercises, self-critiques, and feedback from the faculty member as well as other students. The course is intended to teach and improve basic skills needed for the practice of law. In addition to the exercises, students are exposed to the theoretical underpinnings of the skills and examine some of the ethical issues involved in interviewing, counseling and negotiating. Enrollment limited to 16. At the discretion of the instructor, the course may include a qualifying portfolio paper that fulfills a portion of the upper-level writing requirement.
